Lhind the Thief (Lhind, #1) by Sherwood Smith

I really enjoy Sherwood Smith ‘s “lighter” fantasy novels, such as this one. While I like her heavier tomes, such as the Inda series, I have to have a greater chunk of time to devote to it as well as reading only that book exclusively. There’s a problem loading this menu right now.


I didn’t care much about the ending. Lhind herself is resourceful, a capable thief who also has some magic and obtains more in the course of the story. Lhind the Thief is an escapist adventure story in the very best sense–completely absorbing, fast paced, and with plot twists and action that just keep coming.

None of the characters are really fleshed out, with the possible exception of Lindh herself. It seemed to end a bit abruptly, but its works. I do love a story where the female lead does the rescuing lhjnd Although I generally love this author’s works, in my opinion this is not one of her better works.

There are so many other plots afoot here that even at the end I am not sure who all the different players and what their intentions are. Amanda PG for some violence. A Noblebright Fantasy Anthology. I understand all the five-star reviews friends and acquaintances gave the novel.

There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Lhind met Rajanas, Thianra, and Hlanan at the very beginning of the story, but it felt as though we the reader were already supposed to know who they were and their backstory.

In one very funny scene, the timorous restraint of a lawful magic user Faryana is contrasted with the accommodating lure of a wicked sorcerer Dhes-Andis. Seeing her develop trust in herself emotionally-speaking tjief with those relationships was very rewarding.


The only part that bothered me, was the last leg of Lhind’s journey. The movement from distrust to trust was almost too swift. Spunky orphan with a secret and a grand destiny!

Amnesia lbind another trope which can all too easily be just a transparent cover for the author not knowing the character’s backstory when the story starts, but I felt it worked here, and wasn’t overplayed. Lhind was a delightful heroine, thieff I particularly loved the way that one of my favourite YA fantasy tropes the young protagonist who’s lhins and has survived by trusting nobody learns that sometimes you can and have to trust others is handled with such a light touch.

I really enjoyed this book. But almost as soon as she is captured by these three, her entire mindset changes.

The story is paced well, and there are so many good juicy battles. In fact, the whole story was a cycle of the same type of events. The Thrones of Kronos: Lhind even has secrets from herself, for she has few memories, and those are troubling.
