My mind jumps to the best of graphic novels, and perhaps also to the analysis by Scott McCloud ‘s Understanding Comics. This won’t bore you with maxims, commandments or such fixated rules. And in English and German on the same page. These can be used for the most varied of projects.

Sep 13, Brian rated it it was amazing. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to get a strong fundamental understanding of grid systems in design. He starts off simple mul,er then gets more and more complicated as the book progresses.
I do notice the margins and line length in printed materials more. This is the oldest and most comprehensive book on grid systems. It contained many examples and included explanations on why the example was a good or bad example of grid-based design, which helps the reader develop a stronger understanding of grid design in practice. It shows examples of working correctly on a conceptual level. It’s one of the greatest resources for graphic designers out there. In a brief presentation of the grid with text and illustrations appeared for the first time in an earlier book by the author.
Would have made more sense in the beginning. For designers who like things to line up and understand the value of heirarchy, this book is the bible. Which was liberating but also surprising. With consice and pragmatic writing style, Joseph Brockmann teaches a disciplined and systematic application of grids. Read it in college and again in Good stuff all over.
The way it is written, as a designer reading it, touched every sensibility. I do think though that it’s a little over the top in insisting the grid is the only way to go, and a bit If you create visual things for a living or for a hobby, you owe it to yourself to at least leaf through the book a couple times. It offers many examples as it explains simple grid systems that are very versatile.

A visual communication manual for graphic designers, typographers and three dimensional designers
After reading, I feel like I understand enough to start creating my own grid system designs. Oddly, this isn’t the page-turner I expected. Things will inherently make more sense and the designer’s workflow becomes simplified for the better while improving their work greatly.
