I haven’t put it down since I started to read it 3 days ago.
This was my first Leon Uris book, and I have read several Leon Uris books and all are excellent. It definitely reflects mid-century values.
Sep 28, Dann Todd rated it it was amazing Shelves: The title should be at least 4 characters long. A fascinating read that kept me coming back night after night. Had we not stood firm in rebuilding that nation I cannot imagine what Europe would have looked like today. By far, this is not one of the author’s stronger books – illustrated by the fact I could not really remember it.

It is the foundation upon which the book is built. As an instance of bias and bigotry, it is hard to beat.
Love all Leon Uris books and this one did not disappoint. I suppose certain attitudes depicted in the novel felt a little outdated in this day and age, but at the same time authentic of the times.

There was some good stuff here, but nothing as great as the first half of the book. It comprises of a lot of historical facts, character’s back-flashes, enough emotions, focuses on the dynamics between the US marines, the non-Nazi Germans, and the Russians, each of the combinations being treated separately.
